Lobbying and Policy Internship
At Brakeman Advocacy, we believe that every person, group, coalition, non-profit, labor union and organization should have access to leaders in our state who make decisions about laws and policies that impact our lives.
And yet we see a gap - smaller groups, organizations, coalitions, unions and non-profits who need representation, but don’t have the expertise, access or means.
As a result, part of our business model is to help bridge this gap for groups where we can and when it makes sense. Our services will be client-driven, politically astute, informed, and designed to be flexible and fluid to meet changing demands and circumstances.
Beverley Brakeman, owner and founder, has 3 decades of experience, skills and relationships as a hands-on lobbyist, organizer, and policy advocacy. She thinks out of the box and is a straight-forward, transparent communicator with the highest level of integrity.
Having successfully grown this fledgling lobbying from 3 clients in 2023 to 11 in 2025, we anticipate the need for some assistance with the administrative aspects of the work. To that end, we are seeking an intern with high level organizing and administrative skills, ability to pay attention to detail, a quick study, flexibility to manage the legislative process’ unpredictability and often late nights, and desire to proactively learn about and engage in the legislative process.
Job Responsibilities
Monitor and take notes of committee meetings and hearings as assigned in consultation with Beverley depending on client needs;
Help to get clients signed up on-line to testify at public hearings;
Attend clients meetings as needed and based on interest;
Attend lobby days with clients when possible and help to engage clients and citizen lobbyists;
Get to know our clientele, their issues and their players;
